January In Review

Well, I will start with the bad news… I didn’t go on a hike. I was out of town and skied a lot – not leaving many free weekend days to hike. I planned on hitting the (low-lying) mountains up on my birthday, but alas, I was too hungover. When Boston and I got snowed out of our Wednesday ski outing, we considered going for a hike instead, but I didn’t think my cute little ballet flats were up for the challenge. Maybe 2 next month to make up for it?

And I while I didn’t complete my Europe photo album, I did make headway on it. I decided to go with Blurb, for no real reason, and I like how it is coming along. Ireland, Spain and France are finished. Czech Republic, Austria and Italy are left. The problem is that you work offline, meaning I can only work on it off my laptop, which #1 is really old and really slow, and #2 I always keep at home and I’m just not there too often these days. But I did start it and I don’t have a problem with finishing what I start, just starting in general, so I foresee this goal being accomplished soon.

Some might look at this as a failure, but I am a glass half-full kind of gal. So I call January a least a bit of a success. If nothing else, I started dating a fabulous guy, won a fancy-schmancy award (and a trip to DC to accept it), and celebrated my 29th birthday in style!

Now, onto February and some snowshoeing adventures! (Too bad we are currently in a state of extreme avalanche danger!!)

January

My goal for January was to create a photo book of my travels through Europe.

Before I can get started I need some help deciding where to make it. I've had suggestions of picaboo, mypublisher, and blurb. Have you made one? Have any suggestions?

I'm thinking I might actually make two different books. One with captions and descriptions (I knew that journal I kept would come in handy!) and one with only full-page pictures that would be like a coffee table book. Oh yeah, and I might make one from the cross country trip as well.

A New Year of Misadventures

I'm not a huge one for New Year's Resolutions. I made a couple last year and while I probably forgot what they were midway through January, I am proud to say I did get back into shape and spend more time with my friends in 2007. As for procrastinating less, well you can't always win. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

For 2008 I have a new plan... one goal every month. There are things I've been saying I want to do for years, things based on the opportunities of 2008, and just random things. (It has become more like a list of things to do in 2008 - the months are just "suggestions")

January: Put together a photo album for my trip to Europe (you know, the one that I took over a year ago - see here, here, here, here, here, here and here if you want to read about my 7 weeks in Europe). (Completed at the end of March, should be arriving any day now!)

February: Go snowshoeing (there is more to winter than just skiing) (See pictures here.)

March: Finish my thesis and recieve my masters degree (ok, this is weak, but I figure it will be a busy month and this is a big milestone for me). I might also add hike the grand canyon from rim to rim - a potential graduation present to myself. (Still working on it - maybe June?!?! Instead of the GC, I went skiing.)

April: Take a picture everyday. (In progress)

May: Sew myself a dress.

June: Run my fastest half marathon ever.

July: Climb Mt St Helen's.

August: Complete a triathalon.

September: Still thinking.

October: Take a yoga or pilates class. (Updated after decision made not to move to Denmark.)

November: Still thinking.

December: Still thinking.

(And I do have one traditional resolution - I will stretch for at least 5 minutes every night before I go to bed.)
